I just encountered another efficiency of capitalism. What an awesome power: the free market. It makes our lives easier, without a doubt! I decided to open a package of pre-shredded cheese. Not that I eat pre-shredded cheese as a rule, but my roommate finished the nice organic white cheddar I bought a couple of days ago. Well, the package said, New! Easy Open! There was an extra, rather fancy, cut below the usual and customary cuts. So, I put down the scissors I always end up having to use for easy-opening packages and decided to approach opening the package scientifically. I read the instructions. They said: tear here. So, I tore there, and as always, it tore crookedly. So I had to pick up the scissors and make a straight cut so I could pull the bag open. I next decided to try pulling the zipper apart without cutting, as I always must do with easy-opening bags. I got about halfway across the top, and the plastic on either side began to bunch. I picked up the scissors... |
